ABOUT CEDARSCedars Campground HistoryBack in 1984 George and Zada Moyer bought a hobby farm and turned it into a gay and lesbian campground. During these beginning years money was tight and the park was quite rustic to say the least. It was run as a family business catering to what was then, a much closeted community.
As the park grew so did the number of regular campers and seasonals. Also growing was the climate of acceptance towards the gay and lesbian community. In turn, this community began to look to alternative things to do with their time and money other then going to bars and dance clubs.
It was a really ground breaking at the time, and the towns around the park like Millgrove, Dundas and Waterdown as well as numerous businesses began to meet and find out that gay and lesbian people were more alike then different. Now when in town and you say you are from the Cedars, you get a big smile and hello.
 About Us
The park through the years has really taken off, and it is really a showplace that you just can't imagine. The park stays as green as we can, as our sites run on solar energy and all of our grey and black water is pumped out and does not go in the ground at all.
The park offers a full schedule of summer entertainment from variety and talent shows, contests and full themed weekends. It has a barn that has been turned into a dance club that would make most city bars envious. On 130 acres of land, some of it landscaped and some wild, it has a baseball diamond, volleyball court, tennis court, in ground pool, restaurant and much more to offer its summer residents and weekend campers.
Cedars won the an Outstanding Business award for Hamilton Pride 2006.
In 2007 the park was sold as Zada felt it was time for her to move on, and hand the reigns over to someone else. True to her word she waited until the right gay people came along, and the deal was done. After 23 years, the park is now owned by Chris, Bevan and Ken.
Now being gay owned and operated, Cedars has a new and exciting chapter to write in its history and the future looks even brighter with more growth happening as we speak!
